From torrentfreak:
When BuckCherry found out that their latest single had leaked on BitTorrent, they didn’t try to cover this up, or take the file down. No, instead, they issued a press release, where they stated: “Honestly, we hate it when this s*** happens, because we want our FANS to have any new songs first.”
This is strange to say the least. Not only because their label, Atlantic Records, is known to release (and spam) tracks for free on BitTorrent sites, but also because the press release was more about promoting the band than the actual leak. Without any hard evidence, we suggested that this leak may have been set up to get some free promotion and publicity, which BuckCherry seems to need.
I’ve got to be honest here, things like this really get to me. It’s like suddenly, BuckCherry is the only band who leaks their shit- newsflash: most bands/labels leak stuff. Not only that, but what band in their right mind wouldn’t publicly deny having leaked a record? People forget that the music industry is a shady business full of liars and creeps. Everything is motivated by money and sales. A band is a brand, an image, a reputation. BuckCherry, and any band who wants success, wants their fans to think they’re upstanding citizens and untainted by the music industry. I don’t blame them. They’re doing what they have to do to make a buck in the industry that’s falling apart faster than Tom Cruise’s career.
I just wish people would take a second to realize that the music industry, which includes both labels and bands, is all one big marketing scheme. That’s the way it is… so don’t go after one band when hundreds are guilty. Oh- and Buckcherry had a top ten single within the past couple of months.
